Charter price questions
How much does a private boat charter cost in the US and British Virgin Islands?
A private full day usually draws bids of $1,600–2,000 for the boat and captain, with a typical bid around $1,900. A half day runs about $1,000–1,900. These are summarised from real bids local captains sent on trips posted on CharterBid.
What is not included in a charter price?
Tips are on top, usually 15–20%. A day into the British Virgin Islands also has customs and park fees of roughly $75–$90 per person. Food and drinks ashore are extra unless a bid says otherwise.
Does the price depend on group size or the island I leave from?
Mostly on the boat. A bigger group needs a bigger boat, but within a size of boat you pay for the boat, not the seat. The departure island changes the price a little through the length of the run; pick an island above to see what trips from there drew.
How do I get an exact price for my trip?
Post your date, group size and stops once. Local captains send real bids and you compare them side by side. It is free and there is no obligation. The bids on your own trip are your price.
How the index is made
- Every figure comes from bids captains placed on trips posted on CharterBid in the US and British Virgin Islands. No rate cards, no guesses. Bids on trips that were later cancelled still count: each was a real offer.
- The range is the 25th to 75th percentile of the bids in that cell and the typical bid is the median, both rounded to $50. A cell needs at least 4 bids from at least 2 different trips, or it shows a dash.
- Trip length is what the traveller asked for (full day, half day, sunset). Group size counts adults and children. Departure island and route come from the trip's departure and destination as written.
- A route gets its own page with at least 1 trips that drew bids and 2 bids on them.
- Prices are for the boat and captain as bid. Tips, BVI fees, food and drinks ashore are on top unless a bid says otherwise.
- No traveller or captain is named; recent trips elsewhere on the site show the route, date, group and bids only.
